Glengowla Mines Fossil and Rock Event 26th Oct 2019
Here at Glengowla Mines we are excited to announce our first ever FOSSIL AND ROCK EVENT! Satisfy your inner geologist and quest for rock knowledge at Glengowla.

Rock ID

Ever come across an interesting stone and wondered where and how it might have come to be? Wonder no more....bring all your rock finds to our rock weekend. We will have a Geologist on hand to help you identify what type of rock you have found, how it was formed and how it came to be where you found it.

Gold Panning

On the hunt for more rock treasures? Try your hand at our Gold panning station – a big hit with kids and adults alike. Plus you get to keep what treasures you find.

Fossil ID

Have you ever picked up a rock and on closer inspection discovered it held the imprint of some animal and plant which existed millions of years ago? It is an amazing feeling! If you are one of the lucky ones bring your fossil along and we will help you find more about your amazing find.

Fantastic Fossils & Gem Stones

Come and see our weird and wonderful range of fossils on display at Glengowla. You can also pour over our vast array of gem stones found in our mine and from around the world.

Fossil Dig

Would you like to excavate some fossils? At Glengowla there are fossils waiting to be uncovered! The staff know where some might be buried but it will be up to you to excavate them .

Seismology

Glengowla mines are lucky enough to be part of the Irish National Seismic Network and a working seismograph can be seen at the mine. See how earthquakes happening across the world are felt in Ireland. That is not all – create your own earthquake as see how it registers on the seismograph.

Rock Painting

Would you like to create some colourful rocks? A rock painting station will be set up on the day to let all budding artists release their creativity and produce some master pieces.
Event will run from 12pm to 4pm Event Admission 5 per person Add a Mine Tour to event ticket for a discounted price of 5 per person.
