Turf Cutting Demonstration
Once a task carried out by every household in Connemara, Glengowla is home to its own peat bogland. The technique of saving the peat has been passed down from
generation to generation.
During our traditional turf cutting demonstration you learn how peat was formed thousands of years ago, be shown how the turf was cut using a Slean, the
technique to stacking the turf and bringing it home. This was known as ‘Saving the Turf’ .
Feel like you are up to the task? Have a try at holding the Slean and cutting a sod yourself! This is a true Irish Experience not to be missed!
